News & Events

Academic Showcase Day and Honors Convocation
Hastings College is celebrating excellence on Tuesday, April, 25 with Academic Showcase and Honors Convocation. This day-long event recognizes high achievement by students and faculty.  HC students will present personal research throughout the day during the Academic Showcase.  Then, the recipients of prestigious awards and scholarships will be announced at Honors Convocation immediately following the Academic Showcase.  The 2017 Bronco Award winner will be announced at the end of Honors Convocation. Additionally, a food drive for the Crimson Cupboard, the campus food pantry, will take place in conjunction with the day's events.  A full schedule of the events is available online at www.hastings.edu/as

NET's Friday LIVE
NET, Nebraska's Public Radio Network, is taking their Friday LIVE program on the road and bringing it to Hastings College. The event is on Friday, April 28th and will be held in Perkins Auditorium located in Fuhr Hall. Activities include an NET Town Talk at 8:00 am in the student lounge in Fuhr Hall, followed by the live radio program at 9:00 am. Several students are performing including the Hastings College Handbell Choir and Vocal Jazz Choir, along with a student piano duet and a tune from Dr. Marc LaChance on trombone. All events are open to the public.

On-Call Campus Work for students
Career Services will be hosting an informational session on Friday, April 28th at 10:00 am in the Career Services office in HSU.  If you are interested in learning about a unique student employment opportunity for the 2017-2018 school year, please plan to stop by.

Hastings Symphony Orchestra
Enjoy the voices of Robin Koozer and Linda Johnson as they join the Hastings Symphony Orchestra for a program of music from film, video games, musicals, and yes, even baseball. Sunday, April 30 at 3:00 pm at the Masonic Auditorium. All students admitted free of charge; adult and senior tickets at $15 and $13 respectively. Doors open at 2:15pm.

Student Summer Workers
Hastings College will be hiring student workers for the summer months in our Physical Plant Services Department. Starting date for these positions is May 22, 2017. Multiple positions are available in custodial, grounds, and paint crew. If interested in any of these positions, please go to www.hastings.edu/employment  and download an application. Send your completed application to HCHR@hastings.edu indicating which position you would like to apply for.  Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until all positions have been filled.

Reality TV Stars Coming to HC
Join 12 reality TV stars from shows like Survivor, Amazing Race, Big Brother and Naked & Afraid, for the "Warriors of Purpose" event on Thursday, May 4 in the Chapel. These reality cast members will talk about their battles with substance abuse and mental health. All are welcome for the event that starts at 7 pm. There will be time for photographs following the presentation.

Scholarships

Hastings Kiwanis $1000 Scholarship
The $1,000 Hastings Kiwanis Scholarship is awarded to a Hastings College student with junior standing (57-86 hours completed) and a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or above. The recipient of the scholarship must also have financial need, as indicated by the Student Aid Report. For details on the simple application process, email Mike Howie at mhowie@hastings.edu. Application deadline is Friday, May 5.

NASA Nebraska Space Grant
The NASA Nebraska Space Grant Fellowship Program provides Nebraska graduate and undergraduate students at participating institutions with opportunities to develop innovative projects that have strong ties and relevance to NASA. Go to http://ne.spacegrant.org for an application and guidelines. Application deadline is May 20, 2017.

ICON Foundation Scholarship
The Imperial Court of Nebraska (ICON) is offering at least one scholarship to a student who may qualify.
Eligibility Criteria:

  • Resident of Nebraska or southwest Iowa or be registered to attend a school in Nebraska or Iowa.
  • Self-identify as gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgendered or as the biological, adopted, step or  foster child of a GLBT person.

Additional guidelines and applications are available from Kim Poplau in the Financial Aid Office.  Application deadline is May 15, 2017.

B. Davis Scholarship
The B.Davis Scholarship in the amount of $1,000, is available to students currently registered in any post secondary institution. Guidelines and additional information is available at:

SurveysSay Annual Marketing Scholarship
We are awarding a $1,000 scholarship to any currently enrolled students with a major or minor in Marketing, Business, Economics, IT, Communication, Advertising. Also open to high school students with acceptance letter to a college or university and with intentions to study in an aforementioned
field. We're looking for applicants that are business-minded, like to think creatively, and embrace innovation in business.
Deadline: May 31, 2017

Azazie Scholarship
The Azazie Scholarship Program is offering a $1,000 scholarship available to freshman and sophomore college students.  Details about this scholarship may be found at  http://www.azazie.com/scholarship.  Deadline is May 31, 2017. (053117)

Abbott and Fenner Scholarship Program
The Abbott and Fenner Scholarship Program is offering up to a $1,000 scholarship to all high school juniors and seniors as well as all students currently registered in any accredited post secondary institution. Students will need to submit an essay on the topic that appears on the scholarship page of the following web site: http://www.abbottandfenner.com/scholarships.htm.  Application deadline is June 12, 2017

Alpha Delta Kappa Scholarship
The Alpha Delta Kappa Scholarship is for female students who will be student teaching during the 2017-2018 school year, graduated from a high school within Lincoln County, and has at least a 3.0 grade point average in college.   The scholarship is worth $500.  Applications are available from Kim Poplau in the Financial Aid Office.  Applications must be submitted by July 1, 2017.
