If you love to sing, as a Hastings College student — no matter your major — our Music Department has a number of outstanding ensembles, world-class conductors and exciting activities for you! All ensembles are open to all students, right away your first year, and scholarships are available to active participants.
We believe that songs of all sorts and music of every kind should be included in your choral experience. So we sing a rich and varied repertoire — everything from masterworks and sacred and secular songs both a cappella and accompanied, to vocal jazz and Broadway, to madrigals and contemporary a cappella song stylings.

Ensembles at Hastings
The Hastings College Choir
"It's like being in the All-State Choir every single day!" noted one member of our flagship mixed-voice ensemble — and it's true! Since 1882 we’ve been singing America’s favorite songs of faith and laughter and love to world-wide acclaim. Membership in The Hastings College Choir is open to all students by audition, which is held during the first week of classes each semester. Check out our current playlist on YouTube or click 'play' above. The Choir is directed by Dr. Fritz Mountford, firstname.lastname@example.org.
Membership in our treble "varsity glee club" ranges from 40 to more than 50 women each semester. Membership is open to all female students without audition; simply consult with your advisor to register for MU260C.01. Our major emphasis is on "beautiful songs beautifully sung," but we perform a broad repertoire including show tunes, popular music and sacred and secular traditional choral music. Want to listen? Try this piece or this piece. HC Singers is directed by Mark Butler, email@example.com.
This is our contemporary version of an energetic collegiate men's "glee club!" Our repertoire includes what you might expect — standard repertoire for men's chorus including sea chanteys, folk music, Broadway and barbershop; but we also sing classical works, sacred songs and collegiate novelties. Membership is open to all male students without audition; simply register for the course labeled MU200B.01. Check out this piece or this piece for a sample. The Men's Choir is directed by Dr. Robin Koozer, firstname.lastname@example.org.
Entertainment Arts Ensembles
Select members of The Hastings College Choir join in creating a number of small groups every year. In the past we've seen VoiceWorks (sample), VocalOcho (sample) and Spectrum (sample and sample), among others, dedicated to singing everything from vocal jazz to Broadway and from madrigals to contemporary a cappella song stylings. The groups are directed by Dr. Fritz Mountford, email@example.com.
College-Community Choral Union
For more than a century, collaborative performances with the Hastings Symphony Orchestra have been a hallmark of the Hastings College choral experience. Students, alumni, community members, high school singers, guest soloists and conductors combine to present choral masterworks that often feature 400-500 performers. Massed-choir productions of Handel’s Messiah are a long-running holiday tradition. Enjoy For Unto us a Child is Born from a recent production. The choral union is supervised by Dr. Fritz Mountford, firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Hastings College Departments of Music and Theatre Arts combine to mount landmark musicals during alternate January terms. Past productions include Assassins, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, Into the Woods, Hollywood Pinafore and The Cradle Will Rock. In addition, opera and opera scenes are part of the studio voice experience, and the Theatre Department offers academic class experiences in musical theatre. You'll also find Hastings College students on both sides of the footlights in annual musicals produced by Hastings Community Theatre.
