Named Endowed Scholarships

Friends have made donations for endowment, memorial and other scholarship funds. The following named endowed scholarship funds provide income to help underwrite existing scholarships and grants to Hastings College students.

IRENE AUBLE ABERNETHY SCHOLARSHIP – Established by Irene Auble Abernethy. When awarding funds preference will be given to students from the Ord and Grand Island area majoring in English, History, Music or Political Science.

MARGUERITE ADCOCK MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP – Income is to be used for needy students who show academic promise.

GILBERT ADRIAN ENDOWED BIOLOGY FIELD TRIP FUND – Established by friends and alumni of Hastings College, the scholarship is awarded to students wishing to participate in Biology field trips but who lack sufficient funds.

CLARA ALTMAN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP – Income is to be used for needy students maintaining a minimum 2.0 G.P.A. and working part time to support themselves.

MARLYS J. ANDERSON SCHOLARSHIP – Income to be used to fund a scholarship for handicapped student active in the Hastings College community.

DR. RONALD AND MARGARET ANDERSON SCHOLARSHIP – First preference should be given to a student who is a member of the Columbus Federated Church and is majoring in pre–medicine or science.

ARMSTRONG FAMILY FOUNDATION – This scholarship is awarded to students indicating a desire to pursue an occupation in Christian education or to attend seminary.

GEORGE J. ARMSTRONG MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP – First preference should be given to Grand Island students from the First Presbyterian Church.

DR. LOWELL AND FERN ASHBY SCHOLARSHIP – This fund was established to assist needy students who have demonstrated outstanding academic and personal accomplishment.

LYLE AND ANNETTA ASHBY SCHOLARSHIP – Income from this fund is to be awarded to needy, education majors.

DAN BAIRD MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP – When awarding this fund the Scholarship Committee will give preference to students from the Clay Center, Nebraska School District.

GEORGE BANCROFT MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP – Income to be used for Presbyterian students with financial need.

BARNASON–SOUNDY SCHOLARSHIP – Established by A.J. And Cathy Soundy, income from this fund is used to award scholarships to needy students from the Webster County/Blue Hill area.

DAVID AND MARUTA BARNHOUSE SCHOLARSHIP – Established by David and Maruta Barnhouse. Income is to be used to fund scholarships for needy students majoring in sociology or economics.

BARRETT FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP – Established by Helen and Harold Barrett, income is to be used for a deserving student from the Lexington, Nebraska area.

HONORABLE WILLIAM E. BARRETT SCHOLARSHIP – Income is to be used for students from the Nebraska third district, with demonstrated financial need, majoring in political science or history, and maintaining a minimum 2.5 G.P.A.

MERRIE GWENDOLYN BECK MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP – Income may be used to fund existing college scholarship programs.

JOHN N. BERGSTROM SCHOLARSHIP FUND – Income is to be used for children of Presbyterian ministers.

CHRISTINA LUTZE–BISHOP SCHOLARSHIP – Established in honor of Christina Lutze–Bishop, a 1990 Hastings College graduate. Preference will be given to female business majors intending a career in public service. This scholarship requires a 3.3 G.P.A. for renewal.

HERMINE H. BLOOD SCHOLARSHIP – Funded through the estate of Hermine H. Blood. Income is used to fund the Academic Scholarships of Economics majors.

MR. AND MRS. WILLIAM BONNEWELL MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP – Income may be used for any needy and worthy students.

FRANK AND NORMA BOYD SCHOLARSHIP – Funded by the Boyd Family of Hastings, Nebraska, this scholarship is available to students from rural Nebraska majoring in Science or Business. A 3.0 cumulative G.P.A. is required for renewal of this scholarship.

C. BRIDENHAGEN SCHOLARSHIP – Awarded at Honors Convocation by the History Department. Students must be History majors.

IVAN T. BROWN SCHOLARSHIP – The income from this fund will be used for needy students desiring to enter the Evangelical Christian ministry. If there are no students pursuing that career, the income will be used for any deserving student. Funded by a gift from Ivan Brown, Class of 1945.

LUCILLE G. BROWN SCHOLARSHIP – Established by the estate of Lucille G. Brown. Income is to be used to fund Academic Scholarships for needy students.

HARRIET DENNEY BRYAN SCHOLARSHIP – Income may be used for students planning on entering the Christian ministry.

BUCKNELL MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP – Established in honor of Howard, Bernice, and Donald Bucknell. Income is to be used for deserving students.

EDWARD AND DOROTHY CARLSON SCHOLARSHIP – Awarded to deserving students to fund Academic Scholarships in the amount of $3,000.

JOHN McNAMARA CONNOLLY SCHOLARSHIP – Funded by a gift from Mr. and Mrs. Gary Duncan of Hastings, Nebraska. Income from this fund is used to award scholarships to students of Hastings College participating in the Twenty-Two Plus Program.

EDWARD B. COSGRIFF MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP – Income may be used for any deserving student.

DOROTHY WEYER–CREIGH SCHOLARSHIP – Established by Thomas Creigh Jr. to honor his late wife Dorothy. Income from this fund is to be used to fund scholarships for History majors.

GLADYS AND VERNON DAVIS SCHOLARSHIP – Income from this fund is to be awarded to worthy students.

DEARBORN–McINTIRE SCHOLARSHIP – Income may be used for any deserving student.

STEPHANIE MICHAEL DIEDERICHS ART SCHOLARSHIP – Established by Dorothy Michael. Income from this fund is to be used to fund scholarships for students pursuing an academic major or minor in Art.

BEVERLY CLAUS AND ARTHUR DISMUKES ENDOWED MUSIC SCHOLARSHIP – established by Beverly and Arthur Dismukes, funds from this scholarship will be awarded to needy Music majors from Lincoln County, Nebraska.

BRENDON R. DOERR MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP – Established by the Robert Doerr family of Grand Island, Nebraska. This fund is used to award scholarships to Business Administration/Accounting majors with demonstrated financial need.

JOHN RICHARD DONALDSON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP – Income is for students who have a serious outlook and who have established a good reputation on campus.

DOWLIN / BELKNAP SCHOLARSHIP – Funded by May and Edward Dowlin. Income will be used to award scholarships to worthy students.

DR. AND MRS. ARTHUR DRESSLER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP – First preference is for students interested in majoring in religion.

ROBERT AND LOGUSTA DUTCHER SCHOLARSHIP – Funded by Logusta Heizer Dutcher the income is to be used to fund scholarships to needy students interested in pursuing a career in medicine or the health professions who have demonstrated outstanding academic and personal accomplishment.

EINSPAHR FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP – Scholarships from this fund will be used to assist students with a major in professional accounting.

EDITH HARRISON EPP MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP – Income may be used to fund a scholarship for any worthy student.

FRANCIS E. FERGUSON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP – Established by the Bradley Foundation and family of Francis Ferguson, former member of the Hastings College Board of trustees. Income is to be used for deserving students selected by the Hastings College Scholarship Committee.

JANE A. FIRTH MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP – Income may be used for any student selected by the College President.

BESSIE E. FOOTE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP – Income may be used for any needy and worthy student.

DR. C.M. FOOTE SCHOLARSHIP – Income is to be used for outstanding students interested in pursuing a career in medicine.

DR. FREDERICK FOUTS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP – Established through the estate of Mrs. Wilma E. Fouts in memory of her husband who was a long-time member of the Hastings College Board of Trustees. Income to be used for pre-med students of high scholastic standing.

FRIEND SCHOLARSHIP – Established by Mr. and Mrs. Dick Friend of Hastings, Nebraska, this scholarship is awarded to any worthy student.

RICHARD E. FROYD SCHOLARSHIP – Established by Karen Froyd Cunningham and the estate of Richard E. Froyd. When awarding this scholarship preference will be given to students majoring in English or Theater.

DR. HAYES AND RUTH FUHR MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP – Income is to be used to fund a scholarship for an outstanding music major selected by the chairman of the music department.

CURTIS AND MABEL GALT MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP – Established by Alan and Wanda Galt to assist needy students majoring in pre–medical studies.

SARA J. GARDNER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP – Established by Dr. Charles Gardner and Dr. Phillip Dudley in memory of Sara Jane Gardner, longtime faculty member in the History and English Departments, this scholarship is awarded at Honors Convocation to worthy English and/or History majors.

DR. ROBERT GRAY SCHOLARSHIP – Income is to be used for students majoring in communications.

THE GRETZINGER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP – First preference should be given to students desiring to enter the ministry

DARREL AND WILMA GROTHEN SCHOLARSHIP – Funded by Darrel and Wilma Grothen, funds from this scholarship will be awarded to students who demonstrate extracurricular activities and personal accomplishments, either in school, church or community.

JOHN AND LILA HAAS SCHOLARSHIP – Used to fund scholarships for worthy students.

ELOISE S. HAJEK SCHOLARSHIP – The income earned on this fund is used to fund Academic Scholarships for students pursuing premedical school degrees.

EDWARD C. HANSEN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP – Income is to be used for students having high financial need along with a serious desire to continue his/her education.

FLOYD A. HANSEN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP – Income should be used for above average students having demonstrated financial need.

CORWIN J. AND DORTHEA HARGLEROAD SCHOLARSHIP – Income is to be used for an outstanding student majoring in education.

ROBERT HARWICK ENGLISH SCHOLARSHIP – Funded by Dr. William Nottage-Tacey. When awarding funds preference will be given to needy students pursuing an academic major or minor in English.

VIOLA C. HAYNIE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP – Income is to be used for students having to support themselves.

GERALD E. HAZELRIGG EMERGENCY NEED SCHOLARSHIP – Established by Paula Hazelrigg to honor her late husband Dr. Gerald Hazelrigg. Any needy student experiencing an unexpected family crisis, loss or other special circumstance may receive this scholarship for a period of up to two semesters.

W.R. HEARST FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP – Funded by a gift from the William Randolph Hearst Foundation, this scholarship is awarded to worthy students.

KEVIN HEINEMAN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP – Established by the family of Kevin Heineman, former forensics coach at Hastings College. Income from this fund is used to award scholarships to promising forensics students. Award may be renewed up to four years.

ETHEL AND LOUIS HICKS SCHOLARSHIP – Income is to be used for students demonstrating high financial need.

LOUIS AND EDITH HOFFMAN SCHOLARSHIP – Established by Charles E. Hoffman '35 to honor his parents. Income is used to fund scholarships for students from the State of Nebraska.

HATTIE AND ELVINA HOLLING SCHOLARSHIP – Income is to be used to fund scholarships for needy and worthy students from Wood River, Nebraska.

ANDREW HOLT SCHOLARSHIP – Established by Don Holt. Income is to be used to fund scholarships for worthy students.

VIRGINIA (GINNY) HOLYOKE–MCKEAG MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP – Established by the family of Ginny Holyoke, a Bronco Award Winner, a summa cum laude graduate, class of '92. Income is to be used to provide one scholarship to a sophomore or junior, who has demonstrated academic excellence in Political Science and Economics, who is a campus leader, and who has a commitment to law and/or public service.

ARTHUR E. AND MARGRET E. HUGHES MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP – Income is to be used for students of good scholarship, high moral standards, and in need of financial assistance.

CLARENCE GEORGE JACKSON SCHOLARSHIP – Established by Clarence Jim Jackson. Income from the fund is used to fund scholarships for students majoring in Physics, Mathematics or Computer Science. Preference will be given to students from California, Wyoming or Nebraska.

HARRY R. JAMES MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP – Income is to be used for students majoring in physics as selected by the chairman of the Physics Department.

PEARL JOHNSON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP – Income is to be used to provide one scholarship to an incoming freshman resident of Clay County. The recipient must major in Music or Education and should be involved in community service and/or local church activities. The scholarship is renewable provided the recipient maintains a minimum 2.5 G.P.A.

MARIE AND JACK JOHNSTON SCHOLARSHIP – Established by Marie and Jack Johnston to recognize academically talented needy students with an interest in science.

ROGENE MOHNIKE JOHNSTON SCHOLARSHIP – Established by Robert and Rogene Johnston. Income from the fund will be used to fund an Academic Scholarship for a sophomore, junior or senior maintaining a 4.0 G.P.A.

HELEN AND LLOYD JONES SCHOLARSHIP – The income from this fund is to be used to award Academic Scholarships to needy students.

HELEN AND LLOYD JONES THEATER SCHOLARSHIP – Funded by Lloyd S, and Helen M. Jones funds from this scholarship will be awarded to students who intend to be active participants in the Hastings College theater arts program.

KALINSKI/RILEY SCHOLARSHIP – When awarding funds, preference will be given to "international" students pursuing a major in Business Administration or Economics.

BENJAMIN AND CORA M. KEMP SCHOLARSHIP – Income is to be used for academically gifted students.

RUTH KESSLER – Established by the Women's Association of the Hastings First Presbyterian Church to honor Mrs. Ruth Kessler. Income may be used for any worthy student.

JIM KOKESH (KHAS) SCHOLARSHIP – Funded by the gifts from KHAS Radio and Ak-Sar-Ben. Income is to be used to fund scholarships for students entering their senior year. Recipients must have demonstrated outstanding and sustained contribution to community/collegiate communications. Awarded at Honors Convocation.

KONANTZ SCHOLARSHIP – Established by Marilyn Miller. Funds will be used to award scholarships to new students pursuing a major in Music or Elementary Education.

GERTRUDE E. KREMER SCHOLARSHIP – Recipients must be full-time students at Hastings College pursuing a degree in elementary education, secondary education or a health care field.

BERNICE KEITH KRIEGER SCHOLARSHIP – Preference should be given to female students in their sophomore year expecting to be teachers.

CHRISTINE KRIEGER SCHOLARSHIP – Income will be used to fund scholarships for worthy students.

PETER KIEWIT FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIPS – Income will be used to fund scholarships for academically talented students from Nebraska,

MRS. BARBARA KINDSCHER COWGILL SCHOLARSHIP – Income is to be used for students majoring in education.

KULLY SCHOLARSHIP – Funded by Dr. Robert Kully of Alhambra, California. Income is used to fund scholarships for junior and senior speech majors with at least a 2.85 G.P.A.

REVEREND W.F. KUYKENDALL MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP – Income used to further the education of deserving ministerial students.

THE REVEREND JOSEPH KYLE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP – Income is for excellent students with demonstrated need. First preference should be given to history majors.

DR. RALPH LAMB MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP – Established in honor of Dr. Lamb who chaired the economics department for several years. Income should be used for business and economics students.

DONALD AND CANDACE LAMBIE SCHOLARSHIP – Established by Donald and Candace (Packard) Lambie. Income from this fund will be used to award scholarships to needy students, with preference given to Accounting majors.

DR. ARNOLD AND LUELLA LANGENBERG SCHOLARSHIP FUND – funds from the estate of Dr. Arnold and Luella Langenberg will be used to provide scholarship assistance to Presbyterian students who are interested in entering a church vocation.

DR. ART AND EUNICE LANGVARDT HUMANITIES SCHOLARSHIP – Established by Mr. Thomas Creigh, Jr. to honor Dean Emeritus Art Langvardt and his wife, Eunice. Income is to be used for students majoring in the humanities as selected by the Humanities Division and the Scholarship Committee.

LANGVARDT ENGLISH SCHOLARSHIP – Established by Dr. Art and Eunice Langvardt. Income from this fund will be used to award scholarships to students pursuing a major in English.

EDGAR LEAFDALE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP – Income to be used to fund scholarships for students interested in International Relations.

THE GEORGE E. AND KATHRYN LEMEN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP – Income is to be used for Nebraska students who are communicant members of a Presbyterian Church.

BERNETTE LIND MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP – Income is to be used for a Nebraska resident who is a first year student and a communicant member of a Presbyterian church.

GLADYS LISCO MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP – Income is to be used for students preparing for the ministry or related areas.

DARREL LLOYD MINORITY STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP – preference will be given to minority students pursuing a career in education who intend to be certified in a K-12 curriculum.

WILLIAM MADGETT MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP – Income is to be used for needy students.

MARGUERITE MARSHALL MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP – Income is to be used to fund a scholarship for any worthy student.

JOSEPH A. AND MAY FINCH MATTER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP – Income is to be used for students majoring in the liberal arts.

ALTHEA MCCLELLAND MUSIC SCHOLARSHIPS – Funded by the estate of Althea McClelland. Income from this fund will be used to fund the Music Scholarship program at Hastings College.

MCCLELLAND FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP – Income is to be used to provide scholarships to students making normal progress toward a four year degree. The scholarship may be renewed on an annual basis.

STELLA McCLINTOCK MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP – Income is to be used to fund scholarships for outstanding students in need of financial aid.

MARY ASHBY McCORMICK SCHOLARSHIP – Income to be used to fund the Academic Scholarship of a Music major.

ROBERT BRUCE McCOWN SCHOLARSHIP – Established by Hale and Helen McCown. Income from the fund will be used to award scholarships to students majoring in science or mathematics.

H.K. McDILL MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP – Priority should be given to outstanding students pursuing a mathematics or science major.

DR. NEILL AND ENOLA McDONALD SCHOLARSHIP – When awarding scholarships from this fund the Scholarship Committee will give first preference to students from Hall County, Nebraska and the town of Wood River specifically.

JIM McDOUGAL MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP – Funded by O.J. McDougal family of Hastings, Nebraska to honor their son Jim. Income to be used to fund scholarships for worthy, needy students from Hastings.

BART MEARS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP – Established by the parents of Bart Mears in his memory. Priority should be given to outstanding students participating in cross-country or track.

JESSIE GASCH METCALF SCHOLARSHIP – Income will be used to fund Academic Scholarships for worthy students.

RUTH L MEYER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND –This scholarship will be awarded to a qualified senior elementary education major who is committed to enrolling in the Hastings College MAT program.

DORIS M. MILLER SCHOLARSHIP – Income is to be used for students majoring in English or Music.

FRANK E. MORHART SCHOLARSHIP – Established by Doris Morhart, the income from this fund will be used to establish a scholarship awarded to a deserving Music major.

COLONEL FRANK AND MARGARET MOSES SCHOLARSHIP – Income from this fund is used to award Academic Scholarships to needy students.

MOSS FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP – Established by Glen A. and Fred J. Moss. When awarding funds, preference will be given to residents of Lancaster County, Nebraska and Crawford County, Pennsylvania majoring in Business or Accounting.

MOUNTFORD MUSIC SCHOLARSHIP – Income is to be used for an outstanding music major.

MOUNTFORD / WHERRY SCHOLARSHIP – Established by John and Bernie Wherry and Miriam Mountford. When awarding funds, preference will be given to Music Majors.

ALICE M. AND GRACE E. NEAL MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP – First preference should be given to a person from the Fort Calhoun vicinity.

JONATHON REIBER SOCCER/SCHOLAR SCHOLARSHIP – established by Douglas and Judy Reiber, in memory of their son Jonathon, the income will be used to fund scholarships for a student participating in intercollegiate soccer at Hastings College.

GAIL JENNINGS REICHERT SCHOLARSHIP – Income will be used to generate scholarships for needy students from Thayer County, Nebraska pursuing a major in Education.

RICE–FULLERTON SCHOLARSHIP – Income will be used to fund Academic Scholarships for needy students from the State of Nebraska.

FRANCIS C. AND AVA M. ROBINSON SCHOLARSHIP – Established by Ava Robinson and Ora Mintling. Funds will be used to award an Academic Scholarship to a junior or senior.

RALPH R. ROSS SCHOLARSHIP – Income to be used for needy and worthy students.

LOLA SAMELSON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP – Income is to be used for music majors selected by the Chairperson of the Music Department.

SCHANTZ SCIENCE ACHIEVEMENT SCHOLARSHIP – Established by Chris Schantz. Income will be used to award scholarships with preference being given to students pursuing a major in Physics or Pre–Engineering.

ED AND BERTHA SCHNASE SCHOLARSHIP – Funded by the Larry Schnase family of Hastings, Nebraska, this scholarship is used to fund scholarships for needy, academically gifted students from Adams County.

MATTHEW JOHN SCHUSTER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP – Funded by Mr. & Mrs. Dennis Schuster of Steinhauer, Nebraska to recognize their son, Matthew who was killed in an automobile accident prior to his freshman year at Hastings College. Income is used to fund scholarships for music majors.

HARROLD SHIFFLER SCHOLARSHIP – Established by Dee Shiffler to honor her late husband Harrold "Hal" Shiffler, longtime Professor of Theater at Hastings College. Preference will be given to needy students pursuing a major in Theater or who are active participants in the theater program.

ROBERT AND IRENE SEAVEY MOORE SCHOLARSHIP – Awarded to upperclass students who have demonstrated an ability to make academic progress towards a degree.

RUTH D. SHOEMAKER SCHOLARSHIP – Income is to be used for music students of stringed instruments.

WALTER SCOTT LEADERSHIP SCHOLARSHIP – Income is to be used for students demonstrating outstanding leadership potential.

FRED A. SEATON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP IN COMMUNICATIONS – Income should be used for communication majors.

DR. MABEL GRAY NEWBURN SCHOLARSHIP – Established by Miss Vera L. Newburn in memory of her mother. The income is to be used for women majoring in communications.

DAVID E. NORTHROP MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP – Income is to be used for a student from Hastings.

ROBERT NUQUIST MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP – Income is to be used for needy students.

CHARLES OSBORNE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP – Income is to be used for needy students interested in participating in athletics.

HOWARD OSBORNE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP – Established by Dr. Tom Osborne family. Income will be used to fund a scholarship for a needy student.

NICOLE J. OSBORNE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP – Established by Mr. and Mrs. James Osborne in memory of their daughter, Nicole, a Hastings College student. Income is to be used to provide a scholarship in the Fall Term to a junior majoring in communication arts with a minimum 3.0 G.P.A. The scholarship is renewable provided the minimum G.P.A. requirement is met.

OWEN FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP – Established by Mr. Robert Owen. Income will be used to fund a scholarship for a worth student from Nebraska.

IRENE PARKER VANKIRK SCHOLARSHIP – Income is to be used to provide one scholarship for a senior at Madison High School matriculating at Hastings College in the year following his/her graduation.

PATTERSON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP – Income is to be used for an outstanding mathematics student.

JERRY PAULEY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP – Created by Mr. and Mrs. Bud Pauley in memory of their son, Jerry. Income is to be used to fund scholarships for students interested in music.

ROSA O. PETERSON SCHOLARSHIP – Income should be used for needy students.

GREGORY L. PLOCK, M.D., MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP – Established by the family of Gregory L. Plock, a remarkable student, class of '83. Income is to be used to provide one scholarship to a senior student with a minimum 3.5 G.P.A., who is committed to pursuing a career in investigational neuroscience.

HOMER RECTOR MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP – Funded by the family of Homer Rector. The income from this fund will be used to fund scholarships for worthy students.

TOM AND DELORES REEVES SCHOLARSHIP – Funded by friends of Dr. Thomas Reeves, the 12th president of Hastings College, and his wife Delores. Income is to be used to fund scholarships for outstanding students in need of financial aid.

JONATHON REIBER SOCCER/SCHOLAR SCHOLARSHIP – established by Douglas and Judy Reiber, in memory of their son Jonathon, the income will be used to fund scholarships for a student participating in intercollegiate soccer at Hastings College.

GAIL JENNINGS REICHERT SCHOLARSHIP – Income will be used to generate scholarships for needy students from Thayer County, Nebraska pursuing a major in Education.

RICE-FULLERTON SCHOLARSHIP – Income will be used to fund Academic Scholarships for needy students from the State of Nebraska.

MALCOLM G. RIPPETEAU MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND – Established by Virginia Rippeteau. Funds from this scholarship will be awarded to students pursuing a degree in Communication Arts.

FRANCIS C. AND AVA M. ROBINSON SCHOLARSHIP – Established by Ava Robinson and Ora Mintling. Funds will be used to award an Academic Scholarship to a junior or senior.

RALPH R. ROSS SCHOLARSHIP – Income to be used for needy and worthy students.

LOLA SAMELSON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP – Income is to be used for music majors selected by the Chairperson of the Music Department.

SCHANTZ SCIENCE ACHIEVEMENT SCHOLARSHIP – Established by Chris Schantz. Income will be used to award scholarships with preference being given to students pursuing a major in Physics or Pre-Engineering.

ED AND BERTHA SCHNASE SCHOLARSHIP – Funded by the Larry Schnase family of Hastings, Nebraska, this scholarship is used to fund scholarships for needy, academically gifted students from Adams County.

ERVIN AND DOROTHY SCHULTZ SCHOLARSHIP – Funded from the estate of Ervin and Dorothy Schultz, scholarships from this fund shall be awarded to students from Adams, Webster and Hall Counties in Nebraska. First preference shall be given to students whose parents are farmers.

MATTHEW JOHN SCHUSTER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP – Funded by Mr. & Mrs. Dennis Schuster of Steinhauer, Nebraska to recognize their son, Matthew who was killed in an automobile accident prior to his freshman year at Hastings College. Income is used to fund scholarships for music majors.

HARROLD SHIFFLER SCHOLARSHIP – Established by Dee Shiffler to honor her late husband Harrold "Hal" Shiffler, longtime Professor of Theater at Hastings College. Preference will be given to needy students pursuing a major in Theater or who are active participants in the theater program.

ROBERT AND IRENE SEAVEY MOORE SCHOLARSHIP – Awarded to upperclass students who have demonstrated an ability to make academic progress towards a degree.

RUTH D. SHOEMAKER SCHOLARSHIP – Income is to be used for music students of stringed instruments.

WALTER SCOTT LEADERSHIP SCHOLARSHIP – Income is to be used for students demonstrating outstanding leadership potential.

FRED A. SEATON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP IN COMMUNICATIONS – Income should be used for communication majors.

WENDELL SHOWALTER SCHOLARSHIP – Funded by Dr. Showalter's former students. This scholarship is awarded at Honors Convocation by the Biology Faculty to an outstanding Biology major.

EARL H. AND CHRISTINA J. SHARP SCHOLARSHIP – Income is to be used for good students having demonstrated financial need and who have completed at least one year of college.

CORA SHEPARDSON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP – Income is to be used to assist worthy students in acquiring a higher education.

CHARLES D. SKAATS SCHOLARSHIP – Income is to be used for needy students.

JOHN SPADY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP – Established by Mrs. John Spady in memory of her husband. Income is to be used for a needy student residing with his/her parents in Hastings.

CHARLES STONE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP IN MUSIC – Income is to be used for outstanding students majoring in music as selected by the music department faculty.

JAMES SCOTT STUBBLEFIELD SCHOLARSHIP – Preference will be given to students pursuing a major in religion or a course in preparation for the ministry.

BETTY JEAN SWAB MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP – Preference should be given to students interested in the health professions.

DR. A.P. SYNHORST MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP – First preference should be given to students who are members of the Grand Island First Presbyterian Church or who are preparing for the medical profession.

LEROY AND JEAN THOM SCHOLARSHIP – Income is to be used for needy students majoring in business who are willing to work to help pay for their college education.

RICHARD TICKLER SCHOLARSHIP – Income may be used to fund scholarships for all worthy students.

TAGE AND RUTH TOPP SCHOLARSHIP – Created by Mrs. Ruth Topp of Hastings, Nebraska. Income to be used to fund scholarships for worthy individuals.

THOMASINA W. TROUT SCHOLARSHIP – Funded through the estate of Thomasina W. Trout. The income is to be used to fund scholarships for worthy individuals.

FREDERICK "SKIP" UDLOCK MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP – Funded by the friends and family of Frederick "Skip"Udlock. The income from this fund will be used to award scholarships to worthy individuals.

UDLOCK–WACHOB MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP – Income is to be used for a student interested in entering the ministry.

DEE UERLING MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP – Income is to be used for a worthy student selected by the Hastings Public School Board.

UNDERHILL/CATES MUSIC SCHOLARSHIP – Established by Carl and Sylvia Underhill to honor Dr. Millard H. Cates. Preference will be given to needy, freshmen pursuing a major in Music.

MONROE H. USHER ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP – Created by Mr. Doug Usher of Los Altos, California. Income to be used to fund scholarships for needy Nebraska students from a farming family.

ELMER B. VAN HORN SCHOLARSHIP – Income to be used to fund scholarships for outstanding upperclass History students. Awarded by the History Department annually at Honors Convocation.

MR. AND MRS. FRED VENHAUER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP – Income may be used for any Hastings College Student as selected by the administration.

LOUISE C. WALTER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP – Funded by the family of Louise C. Walter, longtime Professor of Education at Hastings College. Income to be used to fund a scholarship for an Elementary Education major. Recipients selected by the Hastings College Scholarship Committee and the Chairperson of the Education Department.

HOMER AND ESTHER WEHRMAN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP – Income is to be used for a deserving student from a rural area of Nebraska.

JOHN R. AND MARGUERITE B. WEINGART SCHOLARSHIP FUND – Income to be used for worthy and need students.

EDMUND E. AND LEILA E. WERNER SCHOLARSHIP – Income is to be used for any deserving student.

DR. FRANK E. WEYER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP – Established by Mr. Thomas Creigh, Jr. and other friends to honor Dr. Frank E. Weyer, who was the Academic Dean of Hastings College for more than forty years. Income may be used for all needy and worthy students.

GENEVA WHEELER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND – The income from this fund is to be used at the discretion of the Scholarship Committee to assist any worthy student.

V. WITTENBURGER BELKNAP MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP – Income is to be used for needy and worthy students.

H.A. WIGTON SCHOLARSHIP – Income from this fund will be used to fund scholarships for worthy individuals.

LOREN AND ROBERTA WILLHOFT SCHOLARSHIP – Income is to be used to fund scholarships for outstanding students majoring in science.

HAROLD E. WILLEY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP – Income is to be used to fund scholarships for students who are children of Nebraska farmers and ranchers maintaining at least a 3.0 G.P.A. And who have demonstrated financial need.

LAURENCE WILLIAMS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP – Income is for a worthy student from the state of Nebraska.

RICK WILSON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP – Established by D. Lloyd Wilson in memory of his son Rick. Income is to be used to provide scholarships for deserving students maintaining a minimum 3.0 G.P.A. from Nebraska or Colorado. Special consideration should be given to students from Cozad, Gothenburg, Lexington, and Dawson County, Nebraska.

WOMEN'S CLUB OF HASTINGS – Income is to be used for worthy students selected by the Scholarship Committee of the College.

JOHN AND HELEN WOODWORTH SCHOLARSHIP – Income form this fund will be used to award scholarships to needy students pursuing a major in mathematics or computer science.

DR. JOHN AND JUNE YOST SCHOLARSHIP – Income is to be used to fund a scholarship for a student who is majoring in the biological or physical sciences and participating in athletics.

WILBERT AND MERLE ZANGER EDUCATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP – First preference is for foreign students interested in majoring in education.

Annually Funded Scholarships by Foundations

These scholarship funds are made possible through annual contributions of the following foundations.

COOPER FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIPS – Funds are to be used as academic and need–based scholarships for deserving students.

NOEL COVER FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIPS – Funds are to be used for deserving male students from the states of Nebraska, Iowa, Colorado, or Wyoming studying in the areas of science, pre–engineering, pre–medicine, or social service.

THE STONE SCHOLARSHIPS IN MUSIC – Funds are to be used to provide scholarships to students in the music department.

CONAGRA FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIPS – Funds are to be used to attract outstanding freshman students interested in Communication Arts/Business and Economics.

WORLD HERALD SCHOLARSHIPS – Funds are used to award scholarships to worthy students from Nebraska and Western Iowa.

PETER KIEWIT FOUNDATION – Funds are used to award scholarships to worthy students from Nebraska.
