LAP — Notes of Clarification

*1 First year students are required to take this courses during their first year.
*2 Candidates who have been admitted to the Teacher Education Program may satisfy the Liberal Arts Program requirement for demonstrated competency in use of computer tools by successful completion of ED 352/552 "Instructional Tools," Music majors should register for MU 352/552.
*3 All Elementary Education or Elementary Ed/Special Ed Majors are required to take PLS 150 or PLS 140 or ECO 140 or ECO 213 to partially satisfy the Focus Area III and certification requirements.
*4 Applicable for non-music majors in the College Choir, HC Singers, HC Men's Choir, HC Band, and/or Hastings Symphony Orchestra.
*5 All Teacher Education candidates are required to take PED 102 "Issues in Wellness."
*6 (1) The foreign language requirement can be satisfied by two years of credit in one foreign language at the high school level, grades 9-12. Students who have at least one year but less than two years of high school French, German or Spanish may satisfy the requirement with 3 hours on the intermediate-level course (French, German or Spanish 201) if a "B" average was earned in their high school language courses or if they have the permission of the Foreign Language Department. To satisfy the requirements at Hastings College a student must complete two semesters of the same foreign language.
  (2) Only Philosophy, Religion and Language/Linguistics majors may use GRK, HEB, or LTN 104 and 105 to satisfy their LAP requirement.
*7 Recommended for all first year students at Hastings College.
*8 Special Notes in Area VIII for the L.A.P. requirements:
  (1) SCI 261 or SCI 434 count as either Life Science or Physical Science, but not both.
  (2) For candidates majoring in Elementary Education, or Elementary Education/Special Education K-6 Dual or Special Education 7-12 the Area VIII L.A.P. Requirements will be satisfied with SCI 203, 390, and BIO 390.
  (3) For candidates majoring in Special Education K-12 only, the Area VIII L.A.P. Requirements will be satisfied with SCI 203 and BIO 390.
  (4) Candidates for the Social Science Field endorsement may satisfy the L.A.P. Requirements in Physical Science with SCI 203.
  (5) SCI 108 will satisfy L.A.P. requirement for HPM, or PED K-6 or 7-12, majors only.
*9 The mathematics proficiency requirements for Teacher Education may be satisfied by: MTH 110 and 120 (for Elementary and Special Education majors only), any math courses numbered 140 and above, or the General Math CLEP Examination, or SOC 295 (Secondary Education).
*10 Some HIS 265/365, 275/375, 276/376 topics courses will satisfy the L.A.P. Requirement, check the class schedule.
